Buprenorphine & Integrated HIV Care Model
Demonstration Sites
The Health and Resources Services Administration funded 10 sites around
the country to develop and evaluate programs that integrate HIV primary
care and treatment for opioid dependence using buprenorphine. Each site
has developed an innovative model of using buprenorphine to treat opioid
dependent patients with HIV. In addition, each site designed a local
evaluation that compares its integrated care model with some alternate
form of HIV care and drug treatment. Each of the demonstration sites has
also agreed to pool common data elements as part of a national, multi-site
evaluation that will assess HIV treatment and substance use outcomes among
